Splash Island – Plainfield Indiana

Disclosure: I was given tickets to visit Splash Island with my family. All opinions about our visit are my own.

When my son was asked during his first week of school what his favorite memory of his summer vacation was, he told his class, “Splash Island.” So that means that the cross-country trip we took to Utah and Idaho including a visit to beautiful Yellowstone National Park was beat out in the list of cool things we did according to my 7 year old son. Clearly, Splash Island made a great impression on my son.

Splash Island is an outdoor water park west of Indianapolis in Plainfield. It’s close to Indianapolis and it makes for a great all-day outing. So, you won’t be traveling hours away to find a great water park. It is not one of the gigantic amusement/water parks but it’s also not hours away from Indianapolis. It’s close, it’s well-kept and it’s a perfect way to have fun without breaking the bank. Admission is cheaper than a movie ticket. And I think you easily get your money’s worth.

My son quickly found out that Splash Island really sticks to the rule of 48″ for riding their larger water slides. Unfortunately, he’s short for his age so he was pretty bummed when he found out he barely missed the mark even though he’s a great swimmer. But we found a great diversion – the pool with diving boards. He had an absolute blast. At our local pool, no diving is allowed so we spent plenty of time  jumping off the diving boards.

My favorite feature was the lazy river. I honestly could have stayed on that thing all day long. There is a volleyball net and basketball hoops set up in the a pool tucked in the lazy river. I thought that would have been great for older kids and teenagers. My preschooler girls had a blast on the Castaway Bay that had slides, water jets, fountains, and other water features just for their age set. Of course, my son still had a great time playing there too.

I also have to note that I was incredibly impressed by the constant vigilance of the Splash Island lifeguards. Seriously. I grew up with lifeguards at our water park who were mostly interested in getting a good tan. The staff at Splash Island were top notch. I was also impressed by the cleanliness and atmosphere of the Splash Island. There are plenty of lounge chairs and great big umbrellas for those who prefer shade. Oh, and another great thing – you can bring in your own food (just store it in their cooler corral until you eat). If you are like me and can’t bear to have summer end just because school has started, there is still time to have more summer fun. Beginning August 7th through Labor Day (September 2), Splash Island will offer Endless Summer Nights and Weekends. Find the hours here.

Their lifeguards really are top-notch! I feel totally safe letting my older 2 boys go on the slides while I play with my younger two elsewhere. And I love that they provide life jackets for the children who need them.

@Katie, I forgot to mention about the life jackets. It was so nice to have those available!
